History

Our Story

International Community Church was planted in 2013 out of obedience to the Word of God and a passion to reach the nations for Christ.

ICC was born through the faith, prayer, and obedience of Pastor David Soukasene and his wife, Hom Soukasene, in partnership with LifePoint Church. David and Hom carried a deep burden to see people from many nations, cultures, and languages come to know Jesus, grow in faith, and become disciples who make disciples.

From the beginning, ICC was not built around one culture, one language, or one group of people. ICC was planted with a clear calling: to make Jesus’ Name famous amongst the nations.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…”

Matthew 28:19

This Scripture became part of the heartbeat of ICC. We believe the Great Commission is not only for missionaries overseas, but also for the church right here at home. God is bringing the nations to Middle Tennessee. People from many different countries, backgrounds, and stories are now living in our communities. We believe this is not an accident. We believe this is the work of God.

God is bringing the nations here so that we can love them, serve them, share the Gospel with them, and walk with them as they follow Jesus.

A Partnership of Obedience

LifePoint Church came alongside ICC with the heart of Christ and a heart for the nations. LifePoint did not simply see an ethnic church or a small church plant. They saw the mission of God. They saw the nations. They saw people who needed Jesus.

Because of LifePoint’s obedience, encouragement, support, and partnership, ICC was able to grow and serve as an intercultural church family. LifePoint and ICC shared the same spiritual DNA: a passion for the Gospel, a love for people, and a desire to see Jesus worshiped among all nations.

“Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples!”

Psalm 96:3

This is our desire. We want to declare the glory of God among the nations. We want people from Laos, Thailand, Burma, Karen, Karenni, Nepal, Congo, Tanzania, Hispanic communities, African American communities, American families, and many others to hear the good news of Jesus Christ.

ICC is a place where many cultures come together as one family under one Savior.

Planted by Faith

Planting ICC was an act of faith and obedience. David and Hom believed that God was calling them to step out and serve people from many nations. It was not always easy. Church planting requires prayer, sacrifice, patience, and trust in the Lord.

But God has been faithful.

Through the years, ICC has seen God open doors, bring families together, raise up leaders, reach young people, and build a church family from many cultures and languages. What began as a step of obedience has become a testimony of God’s grace.

“Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.”

Psalm 127:1

ICC belongs to the Lord. He is the One who builds His church. He is the One who saves. He is the One who brings people together. He is the One who gives vision, strength, and purpose.

Reaching the Nations Here

At ICC, we believe the mission field is not far away. The mission field is also here.

God is bringing people from the nations into our neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, and communities. Many have come as immigrants, refugees, students, workers, and families seeking a new life. Some carry stories of war, hardship, loss, and transition. Many are looking for hope, belonging, and truth.

We believe Jesus is the hope of the world.

Our desire is to welcome people, love people, serve people, and point people to Jesus Christ. We want ICC to be a spiritual home where people can hear the Word of God, worship Jesus, grow in discipleship, and use their gifts for the glory of God.

“And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations…”

Matthew 24:14

We believe ICC is one small part of God’s great mission to bring the Gospel to the nations.

One Family in Christ

ICC is an intercultural church. This means we celebrate the beauty of many cultures, but our greatest identity is found in Jesus Christ.

We come from many nations, but we are one family.
We speak different languages, but we worship one Savior.
We have different stories, but we share one Gospel.
We have different backgrounds, but we are united in Christ.

The Bible gives us a beautiful picture of heaven:

“After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages…”

Revelation 7:9

This is the picture we long to see at ICC: people from every nation worshiping Jesus together.

Our Mission Continues

Since 2013, God has been writing the story of International Community Church. The story is still being written.

We are grateful for David and Hom Soukasene’s faith and obedience. We are grateful for LifePoint Church and their partnership in the Gospel. We are grateful for every family, leader, volunteer, and church member who has served, prayed, given, and helped ICC move forward.

Most of all, we are grateful to God.

Our mission remains the same:

To worship Jesus, make disciples, reach the nations, and make Jesus’ Name famous amongst the nations.

We believe God is not finished with ICC. We believe He is still calling people to Himself. We believe He is still raising up the next generation. We believe He is still bringing the nations here for His glory.

May Jesus be known.
May the Gospel go forward.
May the nations worship Him.
